Buckle up, folks because I’m participating in my very first Book Tag post! I was tagged for this by my friend Amanda of Bookish Brews and honestly have no idea where this idea originated or if it’s a meme or even hosted by anyone in particular. If you know the answer to any of that please feel free to leave it in the comments! Also, because I love lists and I love Bookshop, I’ve created a Bookshop list of EVERY book I recommend on this post. Check it to get your hands on some of my all time reads! Here we go…
The “20 Questions” Book Tag

1. How many books are too many books in a series?
More than four. Though trilogies are my personal preference. Some of my fav trilogies are The Rebel of the Sands Series by Alwyn Hamilton, The Market of Monsters Series by Rebecca Schaeffer and The Pendragon’s Heir Series by Suzannah Rowntree.
2. How do you feel about cliff-hangers?
Guuuuuuuurl, I love me some cliffhangers! I get SO much dang joy when an author has me just jonesing to get my hands on that next installment. Some books with particularly well executed cliffhangers are The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh, Forest of Firelight by Sheri L. Tapscott, Fable by Adrienne Young, The Bridge Kingdom by Danielle Jensen and Where Dreams Descend by Janella Angeles.

3. Hardback or Paperback?
Hardbacks are way easier to read while laying on your side (which is my preferred position) because the spines don’t buckle. I probably mostly read e-books these days, though, since they’re easier to get from the library. And also e-books are even easier to read while laying on your side so I’d like option C, please!
4. Favorite book?

Full disclosure; I’m scared to put my actual favorite book on here because it’s been a little while since I last read it and I am not sure if it holds up. (I really should re-read and update my review sometime this year) Some more recent favorites of mine are Anna K: A Love Story by Jenny Lee and Legendborn by Tracy Deonn.

5. Least favorite book?
I typically DNF books I don’t like so I’m super duper blanking on this. That being said, I absolutely loathe books that are racist, homophobic, transphobic and/or ableist. GTFO of here with that.
6. Love triangles, yes or no?
Turns out there are some real love triangle haters out there. But I honestly don’t feel one way or the other about them? They’re a trope and, like all tropes, they don’t always play out. Some love triangles that I think are pulled off really well, though, are Bree + Nick/Sel from Legendborn by Tracy Deonn, Lia + Rafe/Kaden from The Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson and Feyre + Tamlin/Rhys from A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas.

7. The most recent book you just couldn’t finish?
Slingshot by Mercedes Helnwein. The student crushing on her teacher was just too uncomfortable for me to deal with. I had no idea it was going to be such a trigger but lo and behold it was and at about 40% I decided to DNF. Huge bummer because the thing was an ARC. : (
8. A book you’re currently reading? (Or three)
- A Pho Love Story by Loan Le
- Fat Chance, Charlie Vega by Crystal Maldonado
- Folklorn by Angela Mi Young Hur

9. Last book you recommended to someone?
I recommended The Echo Wife by Sarah Gailey to a friend of mine just the other day and she is now waiting for the audio book from the library. Huzzah! Love when that happens! Check out my review of The Echo Wife if you haven’t yet!
10. Oldest book you’ve read by publication date?
I went through a Shakespeare phase in college and ended up reading most of the comedies and tragedies. Those are all circa the late 1500’s and I can’t imagine I’ve read much that’s older than that? At least not by choice because High School English and Sunday School do not count, imo.
11. Newest book you’ve read?
You’ve Reached Sam isn’t published until November 2, 2021 so that’s def the “newest” thing I’ve finished lately. Be sure to read my review of this supernatural teen drama when it posts tomorrow!

12. Favorite author?
Who on earth just has ONE favorite author? I have about twenty, though for the sake of this post I managed to narrow it down to these five: Yaa Gyasi, Daphne du Maurier, Tana French, Melissa Broder and Jane Austen.

13. Buying books or borrowing books?
Borrowing. From the library. Because libraries are the freaking best and this girl is on a mf budget.
14. A book you dislike that everyone else seems to love?
The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. Don’t @ me about it. Sorry not sorry because I just didn’t like it AND THAT IS THAT!
15. Bookmarks or dog-ears?
Bookmarks. Because I mostly read library books. And dog-earing library books is some pretty sociopathic behavior imo.

16. A book you can always reread?
The Sea of Tranquility by Katya Millay! I periodically revisit this book when I’m in a reading slump or if I ever just need a little something to cheer me up. It’s such a lovely story and I adore every single one of the characters even more with each re-read.
17. Can you read while listening to music?
YES! And I recently started a Spotify account specifically for sharing my book inspired playlists. Follow me and let me know what you think of the songs I chose. I started with Legendborn as it is really, one of my great loves. I’m also taking suggestions if you’re into this idea as much as I am!
18. One POV or multiple POVs?
One. I can make an exception for up to two as long as there are NOT multiple timelines. I really am not a fan of switching between past and present. A few books where the constant shift in POV took me out of the story are The Riven Kingdoms Series (books three and four especially) and basically all of A Song of Ice and Fire Series (aka Game of Thrones).
19. Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days?
One sitting, yo!! Is there anything better than staying up way later than you should to finish that book you just can’t put down!? Some books that I just HAD to finish in a single sitting are The Faceless Mage by Kenley Davidson, One to Watch by Kate Stayman-London, A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer, The Trophy Wife by Sunday Tomassetti and The Line by J.D. Horn.

And last but not least…
20. Who do you tag?
I am going to tag a few of the people I’ve been chatting with on here lately as well as a recent(ish) post of theirs for you all to check out! I tag Susana @ Susana Loves Books, Ritz @ Living, Loving and Reading, Ariel @ Gemini Book Nook and Kimberly @ Deity of Books.
Thanks so much to Amanda for tagging me and to everyone else who took the time to read all that! Looking forward to Ariel, Ritz, Kimberly and Susana’s lists! Wishing you each a lovely week. ❤
